Position Description

Summary

As a PRN Research Nurse in Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), you will coordinate and oversee the implementation of clinical research protocols while providing advanced nursing care. Ensure compliance with research standards, regulations, and protocol requirements across various research settings.

Schedule

1st and 2nd shift hours, PRN

Primary Responsibilities

  • Administer protocol specific interventions up to and including infusions, transfusions, injections, vaccinations, oral medications, vascular access (IV/Port/PICC), spirometry testing, survey collection, and venipuncture phlebotomy.
  • Assist in the collection and evaluation of data. Complete all forms required for proper protocol documentation. Enter patient data into database and other programs. Maintain patient records.
  • Under physician direction, perform protocol-specific clinical tasks including patient assessment, screening, ordering tests, collecting specimens, and monitoring responses.
  • Identify problems or obstacles in the system/procedures related to implementation of the research protocols and data collection, and communicate to the study investigators. Notify appropriate personnel of any complications or untoward effects of research.
  • Provide patient and family education. May provide staff education concerning research protocols as required.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and monitoring of QI activities. Implement and conduct quality control processes to ensure the highest data standards. Develop clinical review data review plan and edit check specifications.
  • Maintain and manage data and data systems supporting research activities. This includes correspondence with IRBs; forms and data entry and cross-checks; development and maintenance of computerized record systems to track and account for patient’s participation.
  • Assure compliance with all relevant Internal Review Boards (IRB) and other regulatory requirements, including proper protocol documentation, verifying informed consent, and maintaining the confidentiality of participants and research data.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

  • Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.
  • Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum Required Experience: 4 years

Required Certification/Licensure(s): Wisconsin RN License

Physical Requirements

Work requires infrequent physical effort such as walking or retrieving materials.

Work Environment

May experience slightly disagreeable features such as temperature changes or noise from time to time. Work performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
