As a RN FA at MercyOne, you will serve as a clinician, team member, and professional and practices under these roles according to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Practice and Professional Performance (2004). The Registered Professional Nurse is accountable for the delivery of evidence-based, safe, efficient and family centered care in order to achieve the Mission of MercyOne Clinton Medical Center and the Vision of Patient Care Services.

As a RN FA at MercyOne, you will serve as a clinician, team member, and professional and practices under these roles according to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Practice and Professional Performance (2004). The Registered Professional Nurse is accountable for the delivery of evidence-based, safe, efficient and family centered care in order to achieve the Mission of MercyOne Clinton Medical Center and the Vision of Patient Care Services.
- Provide competent and ethical care within legal standards of practice as applicable to the RNFA.
- Preoperative Role:
- Participate in preoperative assessment and planning for selected surgical patients in collaboration with the health team members in the preoperative location.
- Intraoperative Role:
- Recognize safety hazards and initiate appropriate preventative and corrective actions.
- Provide exposure through appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning, and sponging techniques.
- Handle and dissect tissues in collaboration with the surgeon.
- Clamp blood vessels, coagulate bleeding points, ligate vessels, and perform other procedures in collaboration with the surgeon.
- Suture muscle, fascia, subcutaneous, and skin tissue in collaboration with the surgeon.
- Place drains as surgically indicated.
- Assist with cannulation and decannulation procedures, if indicated.
- Postoperative Role:
- Follow selected surgical patients postoperatively in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Serve as an educator, mentor, consultant, and resource to colleagues and other health care professionals in relation to RNFA activities.
- Work as a professional colleague with the perioperative team and influence multidisciplinary relationships by enhancing collaborative processes.
- Maintain regulatory, credentialing, and privileging requirements.
- Complete RNFA-specific competencies.
- Pursue professional growth related to both perioperative nursing and RNFA practice and participate in a professional organization.
- Days
- Active registration for Registered Nurse – Board of Nursing, State of Iowa.
- Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.
- Must be ACLS certified within one year of hire.
- Must be PALS certified within one year of hire.
- Current knowledge of ASPAN and AORN standards is desired
- CNOR certification.
- RNFA certification preferred.
- Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Must be capable of problem solving, critical thinking, and assessment of patient condition.
- Experience preferred.
- Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
- Associate degree or diploma from an accredited school of nursing. Graduate of an accredited RNFA program.
